A pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel in his pants. The bartender looks at the pirate and says, "Hey - you know you have a steering wheel in your pants?"

The pirate responds, "YARRR T'is driving me nuts!"

Found this delightfully strange kitty at a yard sale today. Pearl just loves it. Its ancient squishy plastic-ness is delightful and weird. And for an extra special delight, its eyes close and it squeaks when held or thrown. Awww.

Fire

This morning we awoke to a hazy sky and the smell of smoke. Turns out that the Boundary Waters has a great big forest fire up in the Minnesota/Canada area of the world and the smoke has traveled waaay down here with those northerly winds. So far it's over 55,000 acres burned, and not out yet. Evidently this part of the BWCA has burned the previous two years as well.

I keep thinking of all the babies - birds stuck in their nests, rabbits, etc. And then I recall something vaguely about predators hovering around the edges of forest fires to catch their prey as they flee the fire. According to the blogs I found, no people have died.
