Growing Things

Things are happening, but the blog is slow going.

The littlest is almost two - in a month she'll be there officially.
The eldest is dancing a lot (improv, not formal), telling funny stories, making up her own lyrics to common songs. Wonder where she got that from?

My garden is doing really well! The tomato plants are huge (for us), the beans are growing fast, and the echinacea is about to bloom. I love looking at the plants, and thinking about them. Comfrey seems really social to me, easy going, ready to join. I mistakenly planted a tomato by it and some feverfew. Never again! Poor, lonely, sad tomato. I've even had a random strawberry plant itself in my narrow garden by the pretty flowers, a tomato and the peas. Oh, the lively peas are blooming too - delicate white flowers. And Lola's nasturtiums. They're delicious, like radishes but beautiful oranges and reds. We're going to try to decorate Pearl's birthday cake with nasturtium flowers this year.

And we're going to be buying land in the near future. And we found an architect. And everything is verrry slowly falling into place. I'm trying very hard to not worry about money. Chris is keeping me grounded.

And finally, my 20th high school reunion is this summer. This is perhaps the strangest thing of all to fall into my lap. I've been contacted by an old friend with whom I'd lost touch, well, just about 20 years ago. The group is going to ride the float in the homecoming parade and then hang out at the "Sportsmen's Club". Of course, I'd love to mix it with all the people I loved so well back then, but gosh I ... just don't care enough. I hated high school interpersonal shit and I can't imagine willingly talking to people who didn't really care about me either, making nice and pretending to be more interested than we really are just because we happen to occupy the same space. And the thought of riding a float in the homecoming parade in my hometown is just about as fun as pulling out my eyelashes one by one. But if Rich went.....

Just kidding.

Folks, I am officially old. 38 this summer - but I feel pretty wry and perky, inseparably if not firmly connected to the sexy energy of the god of growing things. Must be that old time religion, or maybe it's just hormones.

At any rate, drop me a note! I'm feeling like a visit. Happy Fathers Day!

    Rich here---
Do you wanna? Let's do it! Let's hang out at Sportsmen's! We'll just do what we used to do: sit in the corner and giggle at everyone else. Wouldn't THAT be fun at 38?

I did the 10 year, Kim, and I actually had a decent time, BION. But your post actually puts in perspective. What's the best use of your mental energy? Watching the garden grow and the kids dance and sing, or try not to feel awkward walking around Scheve Park? (Although in a weird twist, Cath and I were playing with the kids, this past New Year's Day, at Scheve, playing on the EXACT equipment that was there in 1974. Something very other-worldly about climbing the same rocket I climbed as a 6-year-old... with my 6-year-old! Oof.)

You know, I WOULD go, Kimby, if I found a table that held you... Surette... 2 or 3 others... Short of that, they're just going to have to sell dark-meat catfish sandwiches and spin the Big Six Wheel without us.

Oh Honey! I can just smell the fish. the Big Six Wheel.... of Hell! Bwahahaha.

Oh man, she's 6?? Jesus Christ. Send me a picture already. Of both of them.

    Feel the love,
    Kim

Just wanted to drop this link your way....totally unrelated to this post...but this is the easiest way to get it to you.

My 20th is next year, so I'm not officially old for another year...heh heh heh...

To celebrate 20 years of freedom, you should go camping with the Hund Household, tell stories by the campfire and have a great time. .. thats my vote.....

My 10 year high school reunion was at a bowling alley/bar near carterville...exciting times and shocking enough, I chose not to attend.

Here's the link.http://homepowerhour.com/ Thought the podcasts might be useful for your future endeavor. A friend of mine has a country-alternative show on this station, which is how I heard about this show re:sustainable homes/energy..

You and Rich should *both* post new pics of the kids...I'll send one along that will shock you both :)

I think you're not really officially old until you're 41, which is what I just turned. ;)

"pretending to be more interested than we really are just because we happen to occupy the same space"

    It's so true.
